About us
Purpose-built and established in the late 1950s, Betty Elaine Kindergarten has been a cherished part of the Lidcombe community for generations. For decades, we have supported children and their families, creating meaningful memories and strong foundations for lifelong learning.
Our team believes early childhood should feel joyful, safe, and inspiring. We take the time to truly know each child, nurturing their confidence, independence, and love of learning.
At The Betty Elaine Kindergarten, children are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that love, care, and genuine connection are essential to early learning, and we place great importance on building strong, respectful relationships with families.
We are committed to delivering the highest quality care and education, while recognising that families are a child’s first and most influential teachers. Together, we work in partnership to support every child’s unique journey.
Our Philosophy
Our History and Identity
Betty Elaine Kindergarten is one of the oldest kindergartens in New South Wales. For generations, our educators have cared for children whose parents once walked through our doors as little children themselves. This rich history connects us deeply to our community and inspires us to uphold traditions of warmth, quality, and care, while embracing ongoing reflection and innovation. We acknowledge the Wangal and Wategora people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our Kindergarten stands. We honour their Elders past, present and emerging, and we are committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our daily practice, respecting culture, history, and connection to Country.
Our Image of Children
We view children as capable, resourceful, and active participants in their own learning. We recognise their voices, ideas, and perspectives, empowering them to take part in decision-making and to contribute to their environment, including risk assessments, the physical environment and shared responsibilities. Through play, inquiry, and exploration, children build problem-solving skills, creativity, resilience, and independence. We value the joy and wonder of early childhood, nurturing curiosity and imagination as children grow into confident learners and citizens.
Our educators are dedicated, caring, and reflective. Together, we create a warm and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, safe, and inspired to learn. We bring our own strengths whether it is gardening, cooking, creativity, or cultural knowledge into the program, enriching children’s experiences in meaningful ways.We are committed to the safety and wellbeing of every child. By fostering trusting relationships, embedding protective practices, and promoting children’s rights, we ensure our kindergarten is a place where children feel secure, respected, and empowered. We see ourselves as partners in each child’s learning journey. By listening carefully to children’s ideas and observing their interests, we extend their thinking, encourage curiosity, and support them to achieve their goals.
Our Role as Educators
Community & Partnerships with Families
Betty Elaine Kindergarten is more than a learning environment, it is a thriving community built on trust, respect, and lasting relationships. We respect families as the first and most influential teachers in their children’s lives and value the diversity of cultures, beliefs, experiences, and insights that families bring. We work in genuine partnership with families to enrich children’s learning and wellbeing. Relationships are reciprocal, and we place great importance on open communication, respect, and opportunities for families to contribute to decision-making and share their ideas.
Learning and Environment
We believe children learn best in an environment where they feel safe, respected, and inspired. Our programs are child-centred, flexible, and inclusive, guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standard. Play is the foundation of our curriculum, offering children opportunities to explore, investigate, create, and connect with others. We embrace the natural world as a teacher, encouraging children to care for animals, plants, and the environment while developing a lifelong respect for the earth and all living things.
